What's ner, pussycat?
I'm working on this film, Morris. It's a mockumentary about morris dancing. I've got to be very careful, because all the morris dancers get very upset by this sort of thing. We're not making fun of them, we're merely taking a comedic view of the life and times of a man within the morris world. I'm playing the Moss Side morris. Oh yes, and I'm also appearing in this new American series, Dirt.
Who do you think you are?
Well in Dirt, I pretend to be a paparazzi photographer who suffers from schizophrenia. We've had a complaint that we're reinforcing the negative stereotypes of schizophrenics - I have family members who suffer from it. I'm not attempting to make a statement. When an actr plays a blind person it's wrong to think they're a representative from the RNIB.
Who's that girl?
That's Courteney Cox. She stars in Dirt and also produces the show. She's a good friend and has been icredibly kind to me. I bowled up to the States without knowing anyone inFebruary last year. She was like "What are you doing tonight?" and was kind enough to welcome me into her circle of friends.
How clean is your house?
You know that brush you're meant to clean the fireplace with? I'm using that to get some dust off the couch. So, no, it's not very clean. I've been away for about a week and the cats have got everywhere. Pets! They're a pain in the arse.
How deep is your love?
Ain't no river wide enough, mate.
What becomes of the broken hearted?
They move away. If they've got an ounce of sense they get out of town quickly.
Are friends electric?
Well, all my gadgets are my friends. But we're not on speaking terms. I just got a new phone - you're supposed to be able to go on the internet, get maps on it. But I can't. Only the guy on the advert can.
Can you party?
Just about, still. The rest I require afterwards is longer, that's all. When I lived in Liverpool, nine years ago, I was out every night. It was like Cheers, I would come into a corner of the bar and I as bound to meet mates. You didn't have to make plans.
Where will you go when the party's over?
The couch. I like to have a halfway house before I go to bed.
O brother, where art thou?
Crouch End, London. It's got every kind of restaurant you can think of. London's all right. It's got problems, but so's mt homw town, Liverpool.
Do you know the way to San Jose?
Yes. I did a film there that's never been released called Still Waters Burn. It was the first thing I did in America, in 1995 or so. It's not a very nice place. It's just a little backwater town, then the Silicon Valley emerged and it needed a capital city. There's no real epicentre of culture.
Who wants to be a millionaire?
Me, but I'm not even close. Dirt might help, but Dirt never seemed that mainstream when I first read it, and that's what drew me towards it.
What did the Romans ever do for us?
Stole from the Greeks. In an empire you don't just steal land, you steal ideas.
